Leukemia Research Foundation of Delaware 2008 Gala

It's true!. The evening of February 9, 2008 glittered with a surge of new hope. Philanthropists all over the Tri-State area now have a new “must attend” event for the season. At their inaugural black tie affair, the Leukemia Research Foundation of DE raised nearly $225,000 for blood cancer research! This extreme success could not have been achieved without the contributions and support of all the corporate sponsors and attendees.

The Doubletree Hotel of Wilmington graciously hosted this black tie affair and accommodated 560 guests for an unforgettable experience. The evening commenced with cocktails and a Silent Auction. The eye catching signature drink, the Pink Flamingo, could be seen floating throughout the rooms in the hands of generous supporters bidding on over 170 Silent Auction items.

As the ballroom doors opened, guests crowded around the entrance to glimpse the ambience -- 56 tables and chairs covered in crisp white linens, the walls draped in hot pink lighting, the centerpieces resembling the headdresses of authentic Las Vegas showgirls.Everyone had stars in their eyes as one delectable course after another was served to their table.

Denni Ferrara, president and founder, spoke passionately about her daughter’s fight against leukemia, as well her dear friend and volunteer Chris Meyer, whose son also endured a battle with cancer. Amidst staggering statistics and cheeky Las Vegas references, Denni touched people’s hearts.

The generosity of the attendees was unfailing. Ritchie Brother’s Auctioneers conducted the Live Auction grossing $26,000 for blood cancer research. A diamond and amethyst necklace, donated by Indulgence Jewelers, quickly became one of the hot ticket items. Exemplifying the mood of the evening, the winner, Mrs. Lisa Cassidy presented it to the beautiful young lady who had been its model all evening, Natalia, daughter of Nick and Denni Ferrara.

The enthusiasm of everyone in attendance continued throughout dancing and goodbyes. And even one month later, those who attended are still raving. "The party was elegant beyond belief and lots of fun as well,” exclaimed Danielle Rice, Executive Director of the Delaware Art Museum. The "team did a fantastic job,” added Brad Coburn, Managing Director of Stoltz Real Estate Partners.

It seems the LRFDE made a winning bet when they placed it with the generous hearts of their supporters.

Thank you to all!!!
